An adult Sunday School study of the book, “Leap Over a Wall – Earthy Spirituality for Everyday Christians” by pastor and author Eugene Peterson (The Message) will start on Sunday, February 8th at 9 AM. in the Susanna Wesley Room. 

Peterson uses the biblical stories involving David as the basis for highlighting the Bible’s use of story to communicate the vivid lessons of everyday faith and spirituality.

Join others as we read together what surgeon Atul Gawande presents, and consider our own choices in light of our Christian faith. Hearing the perspectives of others can help us see our own options more clearly.

Being Mortal  is a 2014 book by surgeon Atul Gawande that examines aging, death, and end-of-life care, arguing that modern medicine often prioritizes extending life over quality of life, leading to suffering. Through personal stories and research, Gawande explores how to shift the focus from futile survival to ensuring a good life and dignified death, advocating for better conversations, hospice care, and models that support autonomy and well-being for the elderly and terminally ill.

For Good Friday, in place of a traditional worship service, we will experience the Stations of the Cross, Methodist/Protestant-style. This is an interactive, multi-sensory prayer walk experience that participants take at their own pace. Scripture selections, and devotional and reflection prompts are provided, connecting worshippers with Jesus' journey from arrest to tomb.

Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent, a time of preparation for Easter. Lent is a 40-day season, plus 6 Sundays, of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. Join us at 6:30 p.m. February 18 for a service of prayer, song, and the imposition of ashes made from the Palms from last years Palm Sunday procession. 

Our Soul Soup group is always in need of socks — the men, the women and the children. On Valentine’s Day weekend, let’s offer warmth and kindness to all who find themselves in need. This is a one-week collection so let’s all bring a packet of new socks and help spread the warmth.
