Children’s Sunday School

Preschool through 5th Grade

Sunday @ 8:50 a.m. – 9:55 a.m.

Children’s Sunday School at Kennewick First United Methodist Church is a welcoming, one-room learning community where kids of different ages grow in faith together through shared stories, conversations, and hands-on activities.

Using the Big Faith curriculum for winter 2025 through 2026 from Cokesbury, children explore what it means to be part of God’s community, celebrating Jesus, learning how faith grows and changes, and discovering that God’s love includes everyone. Through engaging Bible stories and interactive lessons, children are encouraged to ask questions, care for one another, and see themselves as valued members of God’s family.

Learning Environment

Children of multiple ages learn together in a single classroom, building relationships across age groups. Lessons emphasize conversation, creativity, and participation, helping children connect faith with everyday life in a supportive and inclusive setting.

Our Sunday School Team

Six dedicated volunteers make up the team of Sunday School leaders who guide and support children each Sunday. These leaders provide consistent care, thoughtful teaching, and engaging activities that help children feel safe, known, and encouraged in their faith journey.

Before & After

Children are released to their parents after Sunday School to join the morning worship service. They may participate in Time with Children and then attend Activity Time for crafts and age-appropriate games, or remain in worship using Activity Bags available in the pews.

The youth ministry at Kennewick First United Methodist Church gives teens an opportunity to learn about God, how God is working in their lives, and how God calls us to live in community. Eight dedicated youth leaders help students build meaningful Christian relationships, study God’s Word, and grow confident in sharing their faith.

During Sunday School, youth explore scripture and biblical wisdom through presentations, videos, and interactive discussion. Many students also participate in the morning worship service as ushers, musicians, or scripture readers, creating a meaningful inter-generational worship experience.

Youth Group focuses on devotions, music, sharing, and praise, while also putting faith into action through service projects, retreats, mission opportunities, and community outreach. Through these experiences, youth discover that God has a purpose for their lives and invites them to live out their faith through service and example.

Music Ministry

Music is an important part of our church life. It enriches our worship, allows us to express ourselves, and gives us a way to serve the Lord by sharing the gifts God has given us. We are blessed to have many volunteers who share their talents in worship on Sunday mornings. They provide a variety of modern Christian selections, gospels, traditional hymns, spirituals, cross cultural music and a few popular choices too. Every service is as unique as the individuals and groups we have formed. Come and join us as we sing praises to our Lord.

Revival

Fellowship & Practice: Wednesday nights at 5:30 p.m.

Revival is a musically inclined fellowship group.  We practice weekly and serve one Sunday a month and at special services, as needed. Our members have a range of skills and talents – from beginner to more seasoned. We play a variety of music including country, bluegrass, classic rock, jazz, gospel, and contemporary Christian. We encourage participation at all skills and levels.

Youth Praise Team

Practice: Sunday afternoons from 3:00-4:00 pm prior to Youth Group.

The Youth Praise Team welcomes youth, grades 6 through 12, who are interested in using their musical gifts to worship. All are welcome to join in.

The Youth Praise Leader is Daisy and the Youth Team Director is Cynthis Bement.

Treus

Treus is a trio of family and friends who not only play for worship, but are known in the community, providing music for local businesses and venues. They are a harmony driven group specializing in music from Big Bands, Country, Rock and Showtunes. They generally practice Saturday nights unless they have an event. They would welcome others interested in their style.

Please contact Chuck Smith for more information.

Choir Praise Team

Practice: Sunday after church for about an hour.

The Choir Praise Team (CPT)  is a fun group of people from teens to seniors who enjoy singing praises to God. They choose music that varies from traditional hymns to contemporary Christian praise songs. The CPT performs one anthem and leads the congregation as we worship together one Sunday each month.

If anyone is interested in singing, you can talk to any choir member, call the church office or come and speak with us after church on Sunday during practice.

African Cornerstone Ministry

This large group of mainly Sudanese Christians play special music for worship on the 5th Sundays of the month.

The smaller portion of the group will eventually lead us in congregational singing in the near future. They provide a moving and lively presence using instruments from their culture with unique vocalization. Truly a unique and inspirational experience.
