Ministries in Action
The ministry life of Mount Olive Baptist Church reflects over two centuries of faithful service in Stafford County. Each ministry exists to fulfill a specific calling, whether through worship, education, outreach, fellowship, or operational stewardship.
Our work is organized across five Ministry Pillars. We invite you to explore each one, learn about the purpose and people behind it, and consider where God is calling you to serve.
Worship & Creative Arts
The Worship & Creative Arts pillar encompasses the ministries that prepare, lead, and support congregational worship at Mount Olive. From the opening hymn to the closing benediction, these teams create an environment where the congregation encounters God through music, movement, media, and warm hospitality.
Music Ministry
The Music Ministry leads congregational worship through choirs, vocal ensembles, and instrumental accompaniment. Members prepare weekly for Sunday services and participate in special programs including revivals, anniversaries, and community events. The ministry welcomes singers and instrumentalists at all experience levels and provides rehearsal opportunities throughout the week.
Praise In Motion
Praise In Motion is the liturgical dance ministry of Mount Olive Baptist Church. Through choreographed movement, dancers offer praise to God during worship services, special celebrations, and ministry events. The ministry is open to participants of all ages and experience levels, with rehearsals scheduled to prepare for each presentation.
Multi-Media Ministry
The Multi-Media Ministry manages all audio, visual, and livestream operations for Mount Olive. This team operates the sound system, projection displays, and camera equipment that enable both in-person and online worship. Their work ensures that members and visitors who worship remotely receive the same quality experience as those present in the sanctuary.
Usher Ministry
The Usher Ministry serves as the welcoming presence of Mount Olive Baptist Church. Ushers greet members and visitors at the door, assist with seating, distribute worship materials, facilitate the offering, and maintain an atmosphere of reverence and order throughout the service.
Spiritual Growth & Education
The Spiritual Growth & Education pillar includes the teaching and prayer ministries that deepen biblical understanding across the congregation. These ministries serve adults, youth, and children through structured study, weekly prayer, and worship experiences designed for the next generation of believers.
Sunday School & Christian Education
Sunday School meets at 9:30 AM each week and offers classes for adults and youth at all levels of biblical knowledge. The curriculum follows a structured study plan, and trained teachers guide each session. The Christian Education Ministry oversees the development and coordination of all teaching programs at Mount Olive, ensuring that discipleship remains grounded in scripture.
Vacation Bible School Ministry
Vacation Bible School is a week-long summer program for children and youth that combines Bible study with interactive lessons, music, crafts, and fellowship. VBS draws participants from across Stafford County and provides young people with a concentrated period of spiritual engagement and community.
Youth Church
Youth Church provides a worship experience designed specifically for children and teenagers. Young people participate in age-appropriate teaching, lead portions of the service, and develop their faith alongside peers. This ministry cultivates the spiritual formation and leadership development of the generation that will carry Mount Olive forward.
Prayer Line
The Prayer Line is a weekly conference call dedicated to intercessory prayer. Open to all members and friends of Mount Olive, the call provides a consistent space for the congregation to bring prayer concerns, offer thanksgiving, and lift one another in prayer throughout the week.
Outreach & Service
The Outreach & Service pillar represents the ministries that extend the mission of Mount Olive beyond the church walls. These teams carry the Gospel and practical support into Stafford County neighborhoods, correctional facilities, nursing homes, and communities around the world. This pillar reflects the church’s founding commitment to serving those in need, a commitment that has defined Mount Olive since 1818.
Outreach & Evangelism Ministry
The Outreach & Evangelism Ministry shares the Gospel and serves the broader community through organized missions, strategic partnerships, and direct service. Current programs include quarterly worship services at Coffeewood Correctional Center, blessing bag distribution, seasonal coat drives, and reentry mentorship through the Right Road program. The ministry also leads partnership development with local nonprofits and government agencies across six community focus areas: meeting basic needs, health and wellness, justice and reentry, seniors and caregiving, employment and economic development, and faith-based community outreach. Co-led by Dr. Lovesun Parent and Deacon Derrick Washington.
Food Ministry & Share Food Network
The Food Ministry addresses food insecurity in Stafford County through regular, scheduled food distribution in partnership with the Share Food Network. Families in need receive groceries on a consistent basis. This is sustained, recurring work that serves the community throughout the year.
Missionary Ministry
The Missionary Ministry supports both local and international missions. Mount Olive has sent Bibles and eyeglasses to Zambia, Ghana, and New Zealand. Locally, the ministry partners with community organizations to provide food, clothing, and direct support to vulnerable populations. Rev. Linda Hawthorne leads this ministry
Angels of Mercy Ministry
The Angels of Mercy Ministry provides compassionate care to the sick, shut-in, and bereaved members of the Mount Olive family. Volunteers conduct home and hospital visits, deliver meals, make phone calls of encouragement, and attend to the needs of members during illness, loss, and difficult transitions.
